Toyohara Kosuke and Koizumi Kyoko admit to having an affair

It started out with an announcement by actress/singer Koizumi Kyoko (51) that she is leaving her management agency, Burning Production back on February 1st. Reason being is that she has been with the agency for 36 years since her debut and wanted to change in life now that she is in her ’50s.

She then addressed weekly magazine reports on her latest romance and acknowledged the relationship with actor/singer Toyohara Kosuke (52), but the problem is… Toyohara is married and has a child.

This prompted Toyohara to issue a statement confirming the affair, writing “It is a partnership in which both of us share each other’s love and feelings together”.

Toyohara also refuted some of the weekly magazines saying he is divorced.  Toyohara wrote, “Some have written that I have already divorced but this is not a fact.  I have a family, a wife and a child and I am very sorry for the concerns on both sides.  I do not think it is appropriate to describe the thoughts I have and the discussion of self-responsibility.  This is a personal matter that is between myself and my family.  This is a family problem and I am responsible.”

But then he also added…

“I separated from my family for nearly three years.  My family are people who do not engage in this work and are living their daily lives.  Please do not interview or interrogate my family members or relatives.  Thank you for your consideration.”

While the affair is wrong, in terms of the way Koizumi handled herself by admitting to the affair and Toyohara admitting to the affair is a stark contrast to Komuro Tetsuya who denied things until a tabloid magazine provided photos which forced Komuro to give an admission and retire from the industry.

There was no denying of their relationship.  Koizumi admitted it and kept her admission short.  Toyohara made an admission, but also let people know he has been separated from his family for three years.  Typically in Japanese entertainment, when an entertainer is caught, there are a lot of tears but Koizumi showed her strength as an individual, not involving her management agency.    So, this announcement of adultery by both parties is unprecedented in Japanese entertainment.

Because of this, this is what many entertainment news sites and bloggers are discussing.  It’s a hot topic being discussed on the morning shows, some very heated comments and many comments discussing how this hurts Toyohara’s family, despite them being separated.
