Back in 2011, Arikawa Hiro’s “Tabineko Report” (known outside of Japan as “The Traveling Cat Chronicles”) was serialized in “Weekly Bunshun” from 2011-2012.  A novel was released in 2012 and would win numerous awards.

The award-winning novel from the perspective of a cat named Nana and her owner Miyawaki Satoru about friendship, loss and love.

And the novel will be adapted into a live-action film which will be released in theaters in Japan on October 26th.

Nana (who received her name because she was injured by a car and her tail is bent and looks like the number 7) is taken in by Miyawaki Satoru.  The two are inseparable but because he is unable to care for Nana, he looks for someone who can adopt her.

The two go on a roadtrip through parts of Japan to find someone to care for Nana, which includes Satoru revisiting friends from his past. But we start to learn the true reason of why Satoru and Nana must part.

And the story is told from the perspective of both Nana and Satoru.

The film will be directed by Kouchiro Miki, Satoru will be played by Fukushi Sota and the voice of Nana will be by Takahata Mitsuki.  Music is by Kotringo.
