The sequel to the “Tokyo Ghoul” live-action movie will be released in theaters in 2019

Manga writer/illustrator Sui Ishida created his hit manga series “Tokyo Ghoul” back in 2011.

The manga series which ran 14 volumes would receive a two-series anime adaptation in 2014, a new manga serialization with its sequel “Tokyo Ghoul: re” also created in 2014 and a live-action film adaptation in 2017.

It was announced that the sequel “Tokyo Ghoul 2” is schedule to be released in theaters in 2019.

Directed by Hagiwara Kentaro (“Anniversary”, “Super Star”, “Pearl”) and featuring a screenplay by Kusuno Ichiro (“Ken & Mary”, “The Big Bee”). The first film starred Kubota Masataka  (“The Last Cop”, “Rurouni Kenshin”, “April Fools”), Shimuzu Fumika  (“13 Assassins”, “The Ancient Dogoo Girl”), Suzuki Nobuyuki (“Aragure”, “Aragagure II”, “High & Low: The Movie 3”), Sakurada Hiyori (“Bitter Sweet”, “Saki Achiga episode of side-A”), Aoi Yu  (“Hana and Alice”, “Hula Girls”, “Hachimitsu to Clover”) and Aida Shoko  (“Hana and Alice”, “Rainbow Song”).

Set in Tokyo, Japan, the story of “Tokyo Ghoul” is set during a time when many mysterious and grizzly murders are happening throughout Japan due to monsters known as ghouls.

Monsters that like to eat human flesh and monsters who can change themselves to look human.

We are introduced to college students, Ken Kaneki (portrayed by Masataka Kubota) and his friend Hide (portrayed by Kai Ogasawara).

Ken is a big fan of horror novels and he often goes to a cafe to see another girl named Rize Kamishiro (portrayed by Yu Aoi) who also likes horror novels. And because of their similar taste in authors, the two go out on their first date.

And while the date is going very well, as the two are walking alone at night, things suddenly take a turn when Rize goes to hug Ken but reveals herself to be a ghoul.

She takes a bite out of Ken and impaling him and while preparing for the final kill, out of nowhere, a metal beam falls from above and crushes Rize.

As the two are taken to the doctor, the doctor avoids waiting for family donors and takes Rize’s organs and transplants it into Ken. It became a major controversy that the doctor was featured on the news for what doing a transplant without permission.

As Ken heals and is lucky to be alive, he begins to notice that every food he eats and tastes is terrible.

He can’t understand why until he learns from that ghouls have that similar problem and he knows that the only way to satisfy his hunger is to kill and eat human flesh, which he will never do, as he intends to maintain his humanity.

Immediately one of his eyes turns red. And as he starts walking around the city, he stars seeing other ghouls and immediately meets another powerful ghoul that threatens him for visiting his territory. As the ghoul is about to hurt Ken, another ghoul named Toka Kirishima (portrayed by Fumika Shimizu) comes and reminds him that the ward is owned by Anteiku.

He goes to Toka Kirishima in hopes that she will help him. And she is reminded by Anteiku owner that they help ghouls in need and the owner explains to him of why he is feeling hunger.

Meanwhile, two investigators Kureo Mado portrayed by Oizumi Yo) and Kotaro Amon (portrayed by Nobuyuki Suzuki) from the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul) are hunting down ghouls but for what reason?

As other ghouls taunt Ken for his weakness and his inability to eat humans, when one starts to threaten Hide, Ken’s best friend.

What will Ken do about it?
