“Kimitachi wa dō ikiru ka” manga is the best selling book of 2018 in Japan

“Kimitachi wa dō ikiru ka” has won book of the year.  The book which sold 152,000 volumes in 2018 has now the manga plus the book version have sold 2.18 million copies overall, which is great for a manga adaptation of a book that was created in 1937 by Yoshino Genzaburo.

The book has received a lot of attention with Miyazaki Hayao coming out of retirement to work on an animated film adaptation of the book for Studio Ghibli.

Studio Ghibli executive said that Miyazaki was working on this film for his grandson as a way of him saying “Grandpa is moving onto the next world soon, but I’m leaving this film behind because I love you”.

The film is slated to be release before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
