UPDATE: AAA leader Urata Naoya arrested for alleged assault

AAA leader Urata Naoya was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for alleged assault on a woman.  According to the report, Urata was at a convenience store at 5:00 a.m. in Chuo-ku and slapped the woman (in her twenties) in the cheek.  According to an investigator, Urata said “I’m from AAA” come with me for a drink. The woman said she didn’t know who he was, he got agitated and slapped her in the cheek.  She ran away and contacted authorities.  Upon the arrst, Urata said he was drunk and did not remember what he did.

Urata did not remember what he did, but the in-store security camera captured the assault.

AAA staff announced that the exhibition for “AAA DOME TOUR 2018 COLOR A LIFE PHOTO MUSEUM in TOKYO” being held at the Laforet Harajuku Museum (from April 20th through May 12) will be canceled.  Information for how customers who have purchased advance tickets can get a refund is listed on the AAA official website.

This year is a milestone year for AAA who are celebrating their 10th anniversary.

Urata has made an apology for the inconvenience to all fans and for worrying everyone.

As for the group’s National Fan Meeting Tour scheduled to begin on June 15th and is expected to bring in 300,000 people, many fans are wondering if the tour will continue.

According to news reports, many analysts are not expecting any suspension of activities or dissolution but Urata’s arrest is a big shock to fans, considering how responsible he is as a leader of AAA and also being a “mega influencer” on social media with over a million followers (Urata has 1.43 million followers).

UPDATE: AAA member Nishijima Takahiro is currently on a solo tour and he did not mention Urata on stage.
