AnimeJapan 2019 – Convention Report Part 4 (Cosplay galore...)

I can remember in the earlier years of AnimeJapan and how you could literally count the number of cosplayers in two hands and those who were NOT booth girls or guys.

In fact, most of the memories of the earlier years of AnimeJapan were of mostly seeing those working the booth as the cosplayers of the event.

That was then, but now AnimeJapan for the past few years have incorporated cosplay into their event and tons of photographers following them when they went outside to pose for the cameras.

Unfortunately, I had to make a decision, go outside and shoot the cosplayers and wait for my turn (knowing full well, I could be waiting quite some time just to take photos of one popular cosplayer) or just continue to cover the event and if I get lucky, maybe I will see cosplayers, famous or not famous.

I chose the latter, as I saw many photographers go outside to take photos, I stayed inside to cover the event and certain stage areas.

While I did see popular cosplayers, they recommended me to go outside to take pictures of them and I can understand why…there was no good area to shoot inside, outdoor was the way to go. But it was windy, cold and I was there to cover the event, not just cosplayers. Knowing many Japanese press were there for the cosplayers, I felt I would be missing out, but hopfully, I can still find cosplayers inside.

Hopefully there were those willing to let me take photos of them inside the exhibition rooms.
