“Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt” writer/artist Otagaki Yasuo (52) announced back in September 2018 that he had to suspend activities due to tendonitis.

He was able to resume in December but he had to let people know that his art style has changed.

With the release of “Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt” vol. 13, Otagaki said, “To the readers who have been evaluating my style so far, I apologize to everyone for the new style.  Although there may be pros and cons, there is no other way to continue and draw manga.  There is no other way than for me to experiment with it.

Volume 13 collects chapters 106-114 and around 109, Otagaki’s artwork had changed.

Otagaki continued, “I entered the manga industry 32 years ago and continued to polish patters and techniques and I made my style with the focus of drawing with precision”.

“It has been difficult to draw with the same quality by the deterioration my dominant hand due to the left-handed tendonitis.  So, I decided to change the style and continue to draw manga to reduce the burden on my left hand.  I promise to deliver the same exciting manga to the readers.  Like a professional athlete, a manga artist also must work and can overuse a part of their body”.
