Uehara Koji (44) has announced his retirement.
The champion pitcher who won a world series in 2013 with the Boston Red Sox, won the Japan Series with the Yomiuri Giants in 2002-2003 and won a World Baseball Classic for Japan in 2006 was in tears announcing his retirement.
Uehara said, “I thought the first three months of the season were crucial. I was feeling very conflicted because I wasn’t called up to the top team and at the same time I was unable to play well at the farm team”.
Uehara played for the Orioles, Rangers, Red Sox and the Cubs. He rejoined the Yomiuri Giants in 2018 but went 0-5 in 36 games.
