On February 21st, actor Osugi Ren passed away from acute heart failure.

On April 14th, 700 family and friends of Osugi Ren and over a thousand fans came to a farewell party for Osugi Ren.

Attending the farewell party were many of Osugi’s friends from the industry such as Kitano Takeshi, Endo Kenichi, Izumi Pinko, Takahashi Katsunori, Murakami Shingo, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, Kimura Yoshino, Mitsuishi Ken, Matsushige Yutaka, Taguchi Tomorrow, Ono Machiko and more.

An altar featured white flowers with Osugi’s photo taken by his Ren’s oldest son, Shumpei, who is a well-known photographer.

Ren’s wife gave a speech saying “I lived together with Osugi for 44 and a half years.  He was a husband but also my best friend which I can talk to him about anything.  I am really grateful to be able to see him off today in this manner”.

Shumpei said after the ceremony, “I think my father would be so happy to see many people came today”.  Shumpei also said, “He was my father but also a very good friend.  Since I have respected him as a father, I was aware how much I missed him after he was gone”.

Playing as a BGM for the event was Tom Wait’s “The Heart of Saturday Night”.  When Osugi was living in Kichijoji, he wanted to buy a nice jacket and next to the store was a record store on a back street and when he heard the song, he liked it and kept listening to it all the time.
