GLIM SPANKY performed their one-man live for “GLIM SPANKY LIVE AT NIPPON BUDOKAN”

GLIM SPANKY performed a one-man live for “GLIM SPANKY LIVE AT NIPPON BUDOKAN” on May 12th in front of 8,000 fans.  The band performed all songs made in the last ten years since formation.

GLIM SPANKY hails from Nago and features vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matsuo Remi and lead guitarist Kamemoto Hiroki.  The band was originally a quartet back in 2007 but as of 2010, they are now a duo.

The name of the band is derived from Matsuo’s interest in Celtic culture and fantasy literature and when she read about a goblin’s “glim”, she added the “spanky” to describe their drive in the music industry.

The band are known for their songs “Ikari o Kure yo” wich was the theme song for “One Piece Film: Gold”; “Hanashi o shiyo” (second ending theme) for “Kyokai no Rinne”; “Utsukushi toge”, the theme song for “Keishicho Sosaikacho Season 2” and “All of Us”, the theme song for “Keishicho Sosaikacho Season 3”.

Matsuo said about their performance at Nippon Budokan, “This is a sacred place for rock music, this is the same place that the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin and many stars had performed.  But for us, we are very emotional because we grew up as kids who loved rock music”.
