Wada Akiko is one of Japan’s most recognized Japanese performers and actresses.
She signed with Horipro at the age of 17 and made her debut with the single “Hoshizora no Kodoku” in 1968 and the following year with “Doshaburi no Ame no Naka de” which earner her a spot on NHK’s “Kouhaku Uta Gassen” and has performed nearly every year since then.
In 1972, she won “Best Song” at the Nihon Record Taishou for “Ano Kane wo Narasu no wa Anata” and in 2018, an 50th anniversary tribute album will be released.
Titled “Akko ga omakase ~Wada Akiko 50 Shunenkinen Tribute Album” (I will leave it to you Akko – Wada Akiko’s 50th Anniversary Tribute Album).
The performers announced for the tribute album are: MISIA, MAN WITH A MISSION, JUJU, Ohara Sakurako, Yokoyama Kenji, X JAPAN’s TOSHI, Crazy Ken Band, EXILE SHOKICHI x PKCZ (R), Kishidan and more.
Wada Akiki said of the tribute album, “I am very thankful that these talented artists are covering my songs. A wide variety of artists of different genres is very fresh and interesting that I was very curious. I am honored that my songs which are treasures from the last 50 years are reborn with a new sensibility. I hope that people from different generations who have never heard my songs will enjoy it”.
