BIGBANG’s Seung-ri (V.I) retires from entertainment industry amidst scandal accusations, Seung-ri supporters and supporters of the victims clash on SNS

BIGBANG’s Seung-ri (also known as V.I) appears to have retired from the entertainment industry.

The singer/actor posted a message on Instagram and YG Entertainment staff made a statement that he did so without consulting them and they have no additional comment.

In the message, Seung-ri writes “I think it’s about the right time to retire from show business

Typically retirements are done through a talent’s management/agency and also to ensure that both side are in agreement (and also to ensure the person who posted it is truly the person, and they were in the rights state of mind).

The message was posted at a time when Seung-ri is facing major allegations after a woman was assaulted at his Burning Sun club.

Seoul police announced back in January that they were investigating the club on allegations that the club was supplying drugs to patrons and that staff were supplying drug-addled women for VIP clients for sex.  Seung-ri has denied knowledge of this and denied having any role in this.

But media have leaked text messages dating far back as 2015 with Seung-ri and three others discussing supplying prostitutes to potential inestors at the club and his Yuri Holdings company.

YG Entertainment has denied accusations by media that they were destroying evidence.

The controversy has led to the cancellation of concerts worldwide and now it seems that Seung-ri’s part of the YG Entertainment produced Netflix show “Future Strategy Office” sitcom may not happen.

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter are begging Seung-ri to not quit because without all five members, there is no Big Bang.  Some posting pictures of BIGBANG with “5-1=0”.

While those supporting the victims are also becoming vocal against Seung-ri supporters.
