Yamaguchi Maho responds top Sponichi’s accusation that she was close to the assailants

Yamaguchi Maho responded to Sponichi’s article in which they posted two-shot photos from an AKB48 meeting of her and her assailants and trying to say that she was close with them.  And the hand gestures were a code that she and the assailants shared to indicate the rooms that they were staying at.

For anyone who has been to an AKB48 meet and greet and a two-shot photo knows that there people can request certain types of photos and the idol tends to go with the flow.

Yamaguchi explained on how the fan meeting two-shots worked and her frustration from Sponichi’s report:

It’s a shame that in this day and age, there are those in Japanese media who have a hard time with understanding when a woman is assaulted, that they have to find a negative reason and show that the female must be involved, as if to make the victim as the person responsible.

The “photos” reported by the media outlet from an AKB48 event two-shot to show a link to those that assaulted her as evidence she is close with the assailants is possibly one of the weakest, badly-researched reporting we have seen to breakdown and turn things around towards a victim of assault.

As many people who have attended these type events are writing on social media in defense of Yamaguchi Maho, interactions are quick, random and by no means does a two-shot photo at an AKB48 meeting event show a connection as if they were friends of the assailants.

We applaud Yamaguchi Maho for standing up for herself and the many who have voiced their opinion on the news site and on social media and calling out the specific media outlet for irresponsible reporting.
