Back in 1984, Oshii Mamoru would write and direct “Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer”, a film that was not based off of Takashi Rumiko’s manga but utilizes the characters and focuses on one of the deepest stories that Oshii would receive critical acclaim as it would deal with dreams, time loops and reality manipulation.
Needless to say, the film was no doubt a deep predecessor to Oshii’s “Angel’s Egg”, “Patlabor 2: The Movie”, “Ghost in the Shell”, “Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade”.
With Cinema Lab founded by Oshii Mamoru and “Odoru Daisousasen” and “Psycho Pass” creator Motohiro Katsuyuki, a live-action film titled “Beautiful Dreamer”, not based on “Urusei Yatsura” but utilizing the concept of a film club of Sachikatsu Art Univeristy has nothing to present for the school festival. But what happens when the club comes across a 16mm unfinished film print and script for “Dreamer” that past alumni for generations have failed to produce for unknown reasons?
The film is directed by Motohiro Katsuyuki and the story is based on Oshii Mamoru’s original concept.
The film stars Ogawa Sara, Fujitani Riko, Kamio Fuju, Uchida Masafumi, Akimoto Sayaka, Morita Kanro, Hiro Shieri, Satoh Takumi and Masu Takeshi.
