Former SPEED member turned politician, Rep. Imai Eriko talks about how good things have become since she turned to politics

Former SPEED member and current Liberal Democratic Party Rep. Imai Eriko (37) appeared on an Instagram live-stream in which politicians got to answer questions on Instagram on November 20th.

The project was jointly implemented by Facebook Japan, Ichini Co., Ltd. and NO YOUTH NO JAPAN in order to provide Instagram users with an opportunity to feel close to politics and easily learn about politics and to create a discussion.

When asked about how things are when she became a politician, Rep. Imai said, “For example, if you are deaf, you are often accompanied by a sign language interpreter when being diagnosed at a hospital, but it’s become difficult during these Corona times.  So, I asked for a supplementary budget of 600 million yen, for those who are deaf to use a smartphone or tablet, to promote an initiative to communicate with a sign language interpreter, so they can go to a medical institution for consultation. When I heard voices of ‘Thank you’ from the people who received the service, I thought to myself that ‘I’m glad'”.

When asked about what she would like to do for the future of Japan, Imai said, “I want to see a happy Japan.  I want to create a society that makes me happy to be born in this country. Due to youth suicide, I want to create a happy and kind Japan where no one is left behind”.
