Former NGT48 captain Kato Minami apologizes on YouTube, video receives more dislikes than likes

Former NGT48 Team NIII captain Kato Minami was once one of the more popular members of the group. Known to many as “KatoMina”, who was so popular in 2017, that she was the first and only member of NGT48’s first generation to rank in the AKB48 General Election and was considered as one of the Ace members of NGT48.

But that changed in 2019, when she posted an insensitive Instagram photo that literally snuffed out her popularity.

Nearly three years later, Kato who is no longer an NGT48 member has started a YouTube channel and posted an apology.  But not an apology directed to the NGT48 members but because of the uproar.  The video has received over 4,000 thumbs down and 757 likes.

What happened in 2019 was that while doing her nails, Kato took a photo of the news about Yamaguchi Maho’s graduation and posted:  “I want to change the channel, but I’m doing my nails”.

NGT48 quickly announced that “NGT48 will stop all operation of SNS for all members of NGT48.  There will be a ban on all SNS”.

In addition, because of the inappropriate post, the once popular member was demoted back to a trainee.

Kato responded, “I deeply apologize that I offended many people by my post.  I feel sad when I saw the news at the nail salon and I wanted to share my feelings only within my friends only.  I made a mistake and made the post public to everyone. I did not consider people’s feelings, though it was meant to be seen by only close friends.  I will look at myself again and reflect on what I have done and from now on, I would like to act responsibly in everything.  My apology”.

Kato admitted that she has a private account aside her public account and it is possible she forgot to switch profile accounts when she made the post and posted to the public Instagram.
