On the planet Little Garden, the dangerous Gift Games played between individuals with unique abilities are the route to wealth, power and global dominance. Where there are winners, however, there are also losers, and the No Name faction has been so decimated that only 120 members, mostly children, remain.
Now there’s just one hope: Bring in outside recruits and gamble that their new abilities will reverse the tide! And on a world known as Earth, they find Izayoi, Asuka and Yo. The three new players have no idea what they’re getting into, let alone any inkling as to how dangerous the games really are, but all are far more formidable than they appear. The battle for supremacy will be anything except fun and games as the ultimate fight for power begins!
Back in 2013, a light novel series titled “Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sō Desu yo?” (aka “Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren’t they?”) written by Tatsunoko Taro and featuring illustrations by Amano Yu was created.
With a total of 12 volumes created, plus a manga adaptation, an anime adaptation (featuring ten episodes + an OVA) courtesy of Diomedea would broadcast on television from January to March 2013.
And the series has been released with an English dub courtesy of Sentai Filmworks.
The anime series revolves around three people who live in a normal world but have special powers. One day they receive an envelope from Black Rabbit who transports them to Little Garden, a place where there are those with supernatural powers called “gifts”. Many compete in Gift Games in order to gain wealth and prestige. The three individuals were transported to join a fallen community known as “No Name” (which has been decimated and only has 120 members left, primarily all children) and hope to bring the community prosperity by defeating the tyrannical demon lords.
The three individuals are:
- Sakamaki Izayoi is a boy who is incredibly intelligent and has a mysterious gift. He comes off as hedonistic, vulgar, cocky and brash. But his power is mysterious and his gift is “Code: Unknown”.
- Kudo Asuka is a wealthy and intelligent young woman who can command others with her words. She seems spoiled and someone who is self-entitled, but in truth, despite her demeanor, she is compassionate. She also can command Dean, a giant golem. Her gift is “Authority” which allows her to control others. She wishes to understand others.
- Kasukabe Yo is a girl who has the ability to speak to animals and use the the abilities of animals which she befriends. Her gift is “Genome Tree – Non Priorium”, which is actually a pendant given to her by her father. She is often traveling with a calico cat and she was crippled, but her power allows her to walk again. She wishes to make friends.
Part of the series’ charms is one could think about the anime series as the underdogs of a country under the tyranny of demon lords, have one chance and they use that chance to bring in three unknown people to help them out.
The three people are very interesting as Izayoi is a bit cocky, good natured but he is like this unknown. He is strong, he has some mysterious power that he doesn’t reveal and he’s not afraid.
Meanwhile, you have Kudo Asuka, who seems so spoiled and entitled, but she is a person who really wants to understand and help others. Despite knowing she can control people and others easily. While Kasukabe Yo is a girl who can speak to animals and gain their abilities if she befriends them. She was crippled prior, so with her new power to walk again and gain abilities, she wants to make more friends.
So, these three people they call onto, they are not perfect people and they have to work together to fight these demon lords.
So, seeing these three people who are uniquely different working together and seeing their growth, as with others from Little Garden, wondering if they brought the right people to the area.
The story is very short at ten episodes and you do get a little perverted OVA, but for the most part, I found the anime series to be enjoyable. I only wish that it was longer, so I was a bit surprised it was only ten episodes long. But at the time the anime series was made, the light novel series was still ongoing. So, hopefully there is a sequel, because the light novel series did finish in 2015.
It has fan service and violence, so do know this is an anime not suitable for young children!
Overall, “Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren’t they? – Complete Collection” is an action/comedy anime series that is short, but also fun and easily a series that people can watch and be entertained.
