Sakura City in Chiba debuts a manhole cover featuring popular Shibu Inu, “Kabosu” (Kabosu-chan). The manhole will be featured at Sakura Furasato Plaza.
Kabosu has gained international recognition for fans of the virtual currency Doge Coin and image was used on X (formerly Twitter).
Production history of manhole covers
Sewers are important infrastructure that supports the comfortable lives of citizens, returning dirty water and rainwater to clean water, but they are facilities that do not receive much attention.
In November 2023, the Kabosu-chan monument was donated to Sakura Furusato Plaza, the sacred place of the world’s most famous Shiba Inu “Kabosu-chan”, and in commemoration of this, due to the charm of Kabosu-chan, who has fans all over the world, We have created a manhole cover with Kabosu-chan’s design, with the hope that people will deepen their understanding of the sewerage business.
○Unveiling party
To commemorate the completion of the Kabosu-chan designed manhole, an unveiling party was held on February 14th.
The design combines a side-eye photo of Kabosu-chan, which has become a hot topic around the world, with a windmill and tulips, which are symbols of Sakura Furusato Plaza. According to Sakura City, “We hope that the Kabosu-chan Design Manhole will become a new symbol of Sakura Furusato Plaza, and that it will become a place that is even more loved by everyone”.
Installation of design manholes
A Kabosu-chan designed manhole has been installed in front of the shop “Saranka” in Sakura Furusato Hiroba, where the Kabosu-chan monument is also located.
Sakura Furusato Hiroba is a place for citizens to relax and enjoy seasonal flowers such as tulips in spring, sunflowers in summer, and cosmos in autumn. In addition to seasonal flowers, please also take a look at the manholes designed by Kabosu-chan.

Who is Kabosu-chan?
