Tommy Lee Jones and Ashida Akina in a hilarious new “PRIDE OF BOSS” CM

Tommy Lee Jones is loved in Japan.   Not just because of the numerous popular films he had starred in but also because of his Suntory BOSS commercials.  Which he has been doing since 2006.

For those who haven’t seen any of the BOSS commercials, Jones plays an alien known as Alien Jones and he is visiting, working and observing society in Japan.

In the commercial which airs in Japan on February 1st, Tommy Lee Jones plays the character of Alien Jones and Alien Ashida watches Jones who looks overworked and stressed out.  So, what best than to get him to relax by going surfing in Hawaii.

When asked in an interview if he ever has been frustrated and stressed like his “Alien Jones” character and if he ever thought that he needed a break?  Jones replied, “I have never thought of that kind of situation before because my work is fun and it’s like a series of holidays (laughing).  Isn’t my own life a vacation?”

When asked what his ideal vacation would be, Jones replied, “Shooting movies, editing, writing scripts, at meetings, taking care of animals is what is most enjoyable.  But also going out and fishing in Patagonia in South America near Argentina.”

As for Ashida Akina getting the opportunity to star in a Boss commercial with Tommy Lee Jones, Ashida said, “I love this commercial very much and having watched it long ago, I am very happy to participate in the commercial.”

When asked what her ideal holiday would be, Ashida said, “As always, best if you can stay home all day and I would be reading a book”.

And while it is generally known that well-known celebrities from another country starring in Japanese commercials make a lot of money, you have to love Tommy Lee Jones for appearing in a Suntory commercial singing with Japanese celebrities of the song “Ue o Muite Arukou” after the March 11th tsunami and earthquake disaster for free.
