JKT48 declines participation in 10th AKB48 World General Election

JKT48, who is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, has declined to participate in the upcoming 10th AKB48 Sekai Senbatsu Sosenkyou (10th AKB48 World General Election), which will be held on June 16th.

The management of JKT48 elaborated that June 16th is when the event is being held but in Indonesia, June 16th is during Lebaran, an Indonesian religious holiday which lasts from June 13 to the 19th.

Lebaran or known as “Eid al-Fitr” is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. In Indonesia, Lebaran officially lasts for two days in the Indonesian calendar, although the government has declared a few days before and after as a bank holiday and many families take paid time off from their workplace during these days.

In JKT48, 57 people including research students are members.

It was announced that overseas 48 sister groups will be able to participate in the 10th General Election, which included JKT48, BNK48 (Bangkok, Thailand) and TPE48 (Taipei, Taiwan).
