Ikoma Rina to star in stage play adaptation of “Mahou Sensei Negima!”

It was announced that former Nogizaka46 member Ikoma Rina will star in the stage play version of Akamatsu Ken’s “Mahou Sensei Negima!” (a.k.a. “Negima! Magister Negi Magi”).

Ikoma will play the role of Negi Springfield, a mage in-training at Mahora Academy Middle School for Girls and the son of Nagi Springfield. He is raised by his cousin after the disappearance of his father, the legendary Nagi Springfield.  After demons attack his village, he is saved by his father who gives him his staff and then mysteriously leaves.  And now Negi is determined to find his father.  Negi becomes the English and homeroom teacher for Mahora Academy Class 2A and learn to deal with his students, especially Evangeline A.K. McDowell, an immortal vampiress and one of his father’s enemies.

Ikoma said on playing the role of Negi, “I think it will be a big turning point for me.  I will play Negi-sensei, a 10-year-old boy, but I can definitely look like Negi and will not lose to anyone.  I’m 120% confident! (lol)”.

Akamatsu Ken gave his support to Ikoma playing the role of of Negi.

“Mahou Sensei Negima!”was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Magazine” from 2003-2012 and received a 26-episode anime adaptation in 2005.
