[UPDATE] Produce48 Episode 6 – It’s competition time for the top 58! Position Evaluation begins! Highlights/Lowlights and more! NMB48’s Shiroma Miru took #1 for “Side to Side” performance, HKT48’s Yabuki Nako in the running for first place, AKB48’s Honda Hitomi is at 11th place (within the Top 12)

Featuring 96 trainees from South Korea and Japan and features a collaboration between Mnet’s “Produce 101” of South Korea and the J-Pop idol groups of AKB48G (AKB48, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48). Last Friday was an elimination episode and the number of trainees were trimmed down to 58.

And in this episode, we will see more competitions as this time the Position Evaluations is a competition within each trainee in a team.  So, how they perform with their group will determine their ranking.

If you want to watch the episode live:

The trainees were assigned to groups they would be performing songs:

  • SNSD – Into the New World
  • Wanna One – Energetic
  • Heize – Don’t Know You
  • BTS – The Truth Untold
  • BLACKPINK – DDU-DU DDU-DU
  • BoA – Merry Chri
  • Fitz and the Tantrum – Handclap
  • Little Mix – Touch
  • Ariana Grande – Side to Side
  • Jax Jones – Instruction
  • Demi Lovato – Sorry not Sorry

This time with the Position Evaluations, the teams members are now competing with each other and will be ranked.  Who will get #1 for their respective team?

The competition is vocal teams and dance teams.  So, we are getting a mix of performances for episode 6 and episode 7.

COMMENTS: A very good performance, but was anyone else shocked by the rapping performance of Yamada Noe?  And it was not a short part either.  Pretty cool!  But the vocals and how they delivered towards the end was very good!  In fact, if this was a group on it’s own, I’d buy their single!  I really enjoyed it.

COMMENTS: Wow! Vocally they were magnificent!  Both Han Chowon and Yoo Minyoung were terrific but only one can make #1 and Han Chowon deserved it!  While I think Park Minji should have gotten third, I applaud Kang Hyewon of getting out of her comfort zone and doing another rap.  While it wasn’t a solid performance, it does show effort and a chance to take risks and improve from there.  Perhaps that’s what the audience saw.  But definitely keep your eyes on Han Chowon and also Yoo Minyoung!

COMMENT: This is a team with pure powerhouses…members in the top 12 competing against each other.  I knew it would be an anything goes and that Jang Wonyoung or Lee Kaeun would be high in votes, but I did not expect NMB48’s Shiroma Miru to get #1.  WOW!  But solid dance performance!

COMMENT: WOW!  The vocals were fantastic! Park Haeyoon, gave me goosebumps.  It was that “awesome”!  Solid performance by the entire team!  Made me want to shed a tear with the others because it was that awesome!  And these were people that were kicked out of the songs they wanted to do and put together as a team to sing Boa’s “Merry-Chri”. Great job!  I think this is my favorite performance for episode 6!  WOW!

COMMENT: With one powerhouse dance performance, you get another and I expected it would be Kwon Eunbi and Ahn Yujin on top and sure enough, I was right.  Unfortunately, this group is an example of how competitive things are going to get.  Go Yujin is a fine dancer but popularity-wise, she’s going against four others that who have developed an established fan-base.   You could tell the disappointment on her face of being fifth.  But Kwon Eunbi, she took on some major solo choreography for this performance and she nailed it!

And a trailer for episode 7.   And with the episode 6 now over, more of the Position Evaluations will be featured next week.  Teaser for next week’s episode 7 looks to be a not-so-good situation for a few AKB48G members, but it could also be editing as well.  But we’ll see how things turn out!

It was revealed that AKB48’s Honda Hitomi is guaranteed 11th place at this time:

And that HKT48’s Yabuki Nako or Jang Wonyoung will be taking 1st place for episode 6 rankings.
