The show originally began with 48 trainees from South Korea (from CNC Entertainment, YGKPLUS, Cube Entertainment, FNC Entertainment, MNH Entertainment, RBW Entertainment, Million Market, Banana Culture Entertainment, Well Made Yedang, HOW Entertainment, Urban Works, YueHwa Entertainment, A Team, MMO Entertainment, MND17, FENT, Woollim Entertainment, Music Works, 8D Creative, WM Entertainment, Block Berry Creative, STARSHIP, STONE Music, PLEDIS and ZB Label) and 48 trainees from Japan (AKB48G: AKB48, AKB48 Team 8, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48 and NGT48, including AKB48 Kenkyuusei [trainees]),

The trainees were then trimmed down to 57 and in episode 8, the trainees were trimmed down to 30 trainees and in last week’s episode 11, the roster was trimmed down to the Top 20.  And now, with the finale, only the Top 12 will get to become members of the newly formed pop group.

14.  Lee Gaeun

13.  Han Cho Won

The series ends with everyone coming to congratulate the top 12.

“PRODUCE48″ has ended and the final 12 members of IZONE (pronounced as Eyez One”) have been selected.

While not everyone may agree with the voters, we’ll support the group.

What is more surprising is to see Lee Gaeun dropped to #14.  Many felt she was set, having been in the top 6 it seems for weeks and being #1 for several weeks.

I wasn’t sure how the final votes would be, especially through live voting.  As most fan voters often put the AKB48G members high up on top, it all came down to the live votes and the Korean audience who had hours to watch and vote.

We have said previous weeks that Takahashi Juri, Shiroma Miru, Shitao Miu, Takeuchi Miyu and Miyazaki Miho were unknowns.  Takahashi Juri often hovered outside the top 12.  Shiroma was always at the edge.  Shitao was gaining popularity for the last three weeks but she also hovered outside the top 12.

Takeuchi Miyu, I personally think episode 11 was possibly the undoing episode.  She had every right to want to stay at the top vocalist position but I guess how it came through in the episode, it didn’t seem as good.  But I look at it as the passion of a vocalist and she knew that it was the risk she wanted to take.  But she should be proud how far she made and her talent and writing skills will go far into the future.

Miyazaki Miho, so close but she has to be proud.  She came a long way and her dream to debut didn’t happen, but at #15, I’m still proud of her.

Not sure if because she’s an AKB48 veteran and also Lee Gaeun’s previous debut with After School affected things but their drop outside of the top 12 was surprising.  Some may see this as a Pledis curse as top trainees for season 2 of “Produce 101” and now season 3 of “Produce48” dropped to #14.

But I feel that the flack heading as far back as episode 10 was when Lee Gaeun cut Lee Chaeyeon for “Team I Am”.  Not only did the team get last place, nearly all four members dropped in their ratings especially Choi Yena and Ahn Yunjin quite badly, while Gaeun’s Pledis partner, Heo Yunjin was eliminated.

The rumors started circulating on social media  about how Lee Gaeun’s choice of words and cutting Lee Chaeyeon out of the team sent Chaeyon down the emotional spiral.  And many blamed Lee Gaeun.

Granted, in a show of solidarity, when the two came back from Japan, Lee Gaeun and Lee Chaeyeon were seen close together in photos.  But I feel the damage was done and Korean voters who saw the episode would remember what transpired.

If anything, while it sent Lee Chaeyeon into a downward spiral, we saw what would become one of the most amazing transformations as Lee Chaeyeon became the leader of her team, show viewers her amazing dancing skills but also her vocals.  And while she was emotionally fragile, viewers were touched that threw darkness, she had proven herself.

I give Miyawaki Sakura some props.  While some expected for her to run to congratulate Lee Chaeyon, she actually went to Lee Gaeun first.  They were the original #1-#2 punch and I thought that was cool on Sakura’s part.

Kang Hyewon is a surprise to most people.  She has said she doesn’t have much skill (singing/acting) but viewers have taken to her positively.  May it be visually or her motherly kindness around Sato Minami, Korean audiences were smitten by her.  Every group has one member they want to see grow from experience and we hope Kang Hyewon does well.

As for Ahn Yujin, the stress has been on her for weeks.  Having been in the top 3 and then literally seeing her votes drop and then last week, dropping outside of the top 12 must have been nerve racking.  But she can sing and dance, and glad to see her make it back into the top 12.

As for the Japanese trainees, I did foresee HKT48’s Miyawaki Sakura and Yabuki Nako debuting.  But AKB48 Team 8’s Honda Hitomi has always stayed in the #12-#11 spot without budging, so her votes were consistent and her jump to #9 was surprising but that goes to show, she has increased her fans in Korea!

But overall, we look forward to IZONE!!!
