In an interview with BuzzFeed Japan, idol Senritsu Kanano discussed living with abuse and also dropping out of high school.

When she was little, her parents were always fighting about money.  Her mother’s violence escalated along with her father’s domestic violence and the two divorced when she was six years old.

They moved from Osaka to Tokyo and adjusted without a father but her mother’s emotional ups and downs were intense.

She was beaten and she would leave home with her boyfriend and not return for a week.  The fridge would have nothing but drinking water and she was often hungry.

Despite the violence, Senritsu said she loves her mom even if she was beaten.  After she was hit, her mom would hug and kiss her and she realized when she got older in elementary school that her family was different from other families who were connected by love.

Senritsu said because her mother is sometimes unstable, she was the only one who can support her mother.

She was then bullied in school and in junior high school, they would throw sponges full of water at her and seniors would stuff her skirt into her shorts.

Because things were bad at home and at school, tears often came out.  There was no way to show a crying face, because she did not want to look weak.

Because she wanted to eat and there was no part-time jobs for junior high school, she joined a underground group where she and other students shoplifted.  Seniors would resell the goods and raised profits.

Everytime her mother got violent, she felt she should just earn money and become self-reliant and become stronger.

But she was caught by police and when they looked through her smart phone, they found out she was involved with a black business.

In 2014, she went to juvenile hall.  Senritsu said it was her first time that she felt a sense of security because she would never be attacked by anyone.

She appreciated the environment and read a lot of books, up to three books a week.

She also realized that her mother was brought up in a home of abuse and parents who experienced abuse tend to abuse children as well.

When she left juvenile hall, she wanted to return back to society.

Senritsu said she loved idols, and would often imitate them.  While in juvenile hall, they would get one hour a day of television and she would watch idols on Music Station.

While she knows that she probably wouldn’t become an idol like AKB48, she probably could become an underground idol.

So, she tried out for Kodansha’s auditions for “Miss iD2018” and won the “Survival Award”. She would become a member of idol groups such as Plus., ZC, and with her younger sister, they formed femme fatale (self-produced).

In April 2018, Senritsu was accepted to the law department of a university in 2018, launched a nonprofit organization (NPO) and website “dear-bae.com” for child abandonment and child abuse.

In 2018, she would be featured in the Fuji TV show “Out x Deluxe”.  Also, known as the idol who bites fingers.

But Senritsu wants to show that people can be rehabilitated after doing bad things.

Senritsu said she still likes her mother, visits her once a month but it’s best to have a good distance from her but while she is very busy, she wants to live in world where she can live with a smile today.
