’80s stars rally to support fellow ’80s idol Hori Chiemi who is fighting stage 4 oral cancer

Singer/actress Hori Chiemi (52) announced on her blog that she was diagnosed with stage 4 oral cancer and she is concentrating on cancer treatment and that she is fighting cancer.

According to the blog, Chiemi said she went for a examination on February 4th and she had a biopsy done on her tongue, she was diagnosed with oral cancer (left squamous cell carcinoma) and it had spread to her left neck.  And now will  be undergoing surgery and reconstructive surgery as part of her tongue will be removed.

Prior to her announcement, Hori contacted close friends who debuted in the same year/decade.

Hayami Yu took to her blog and shared that she talked with Hori on the phone, while she is fighting her cancer and in a cheerful voice, she said, “I will be announcing this tomorrow, so everyone among the Doki no nakama friends, (a term for the ’80s performers) may be surprised.  After she told her, Hori told Hayami, do not worry about me, keep working hard and do your best!”.

Hayami said, this is the usual Chiemi-chan.

Hayami said that Hori told her that she wants to see everyone from sync after the operation.  Hayami asked everyone from doki friends, classmates and fellows of the 1980’s to please support Chiemi-chan.  Hayami wished her good friend the best during her surgery.

Fukawa Toshikazu wrote on his blog, that Hori called him by phone before she went public on her blog.

Fukawa said he was shocked and also said that Hori hoped they can do a reunion once she’s better.  Fukawa said it will be hard and painful but he does not want her to lose and also hopes they can reunite again.
