On April 20th, NHK BS Premium will be airing a special on ZARD titled “Zard yo Eien Nare Sakai Izumi no Uta wa Ko Umareta” (Zard forever eternal Sakai Izumi’s music was born like this).
Since 1991, ZARD’s Izumi Sakai had written 152 songs including hit songs which have sold over 37 million copies in sales.
Since her death at the age of 40 back in 2007 (from an accidental fall from the landing of an emergency-exit slope at Keio University Hospital where she was undergoing chemotherapy), ZARD’s music still resonates strongly among Japanese music fans.
The special looks into why Sakai Iazumi songs have captured the hearts of people and will air on Saturday, April 20th at 9:00 p.m. to 10:59 p.m.
