Remembering the “Hatsune Miku x Google” CM eight years later

Back in 2011, a Google commercial introduced Hatsune Miku to the world.

Hanada Rei, who comments on advertisements covered the 2011 commercial on his Twitter:

Hanada wrote, “young children may not know because of the age of V Tuber’s including Kizuna Ai, but 8 years ago, a cm was made with the tag “Hatsune Miku X Google”.  It made vocaloid, that was unknown at the time, important.  It was a famous commercial”.

Hanada is no doubt correct. In today’s YouTube, there are many V Tubers and with the popularity of Kizuna Ai, Utako Suzuka, Beilene and other virtual Youtubers, the Hatsune Miku commercial no doubt jumpstarted the popularity of Vocaloid and the concept of virtual characters:
