SUGIZO and miwa talk Gundam

The third ending theme for “Kidou Senshi Gundam THE ORIGIN Zenya Akai Suisei” (Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN Even of the Red Dwarf) was revealed on June 25th.

The anime series is airing on NHK (general television) and the new song “A Red Ray” is by SUGIZO feat. miwa and the two discussed their feelings towards Gundam and music.

When asked about their feelings of being involved in the “Kidou Senshi Gundam 40th Anniversary Project”, SUGIZO said, “Of course, I never imagined myself to be in the position because you never think you would work on something you have enjoyed in as a child”.

Miwa agreed saying, “That’s right.  It’s hard to imagine that I would be involved”.

SUGIZO followed with, “For example, I enjoyed ‘Star Wars’ since I was a child, but I did not want to create the music for ‘Star Wars’.  Because I can not imagine that ever happening.  But on the 35th anniversary of Gundam five years ago, Miyakawa, presiden tof Bandai Namco Entertainment and CEO of Sunrise at the time had a panel on the statue project for the 35th Anniversary of Gundam.  I was invited and we got to know each other and connected”.

As for miwa, how she got into Gundam, “When I was a child, a new series was broadcast and it was ‘Mobile Suit Gundam SEED’.  As for ‘Kidou Senshi Gundam THE ORIGIN’, it’s like watching everything from scratch.  I feel that when you read a manga or watch documenaries of authors, the animation work is tied to a toy for children, but the story itself is for adults.  It was difficult to understand when I was a child, but to understand the human drama, it draws you in more an dmore.  If I watched this work as a teenager, I would feel it’s really deep work”.
