“Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers” vol. 10 has the Gundam pilots going all out and will excite mecha fans who crave for mechanical designs and chaotic action sequences, and while the storyine has progressed with each volume, you can’t help but feel that things were a bit more chaotic and hard to follow art-wise and also through its storytelling.

Treize, who has been reinstated as the OZ Commander-in-Chief declared war against the White Fang, ledd by Zechs Milliardo.  As the G Team is gearing up to strike against the White Fang before taking on World Nation, Dorothy and Relena want to be by Zech’s side, so they can witness the “Final War”.  What happens to the G Team?  Check out vol. 13 of “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers”.

What is “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers”?

It was back in 1995 when an anime series titled “Shin Kido Senki Gundam Wing” aired in Japan. The sixth installment in the “Gundam” franchise, it was a series that took place in the “After Colony” timeline.

A different setting and an alternate universe than the well-known Universal Century (UC), the AC deals with events primarily “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” and its sequel “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz”.

The series is set in After Colony 195 and humans have colonized space and developed space colonies at each of the five Earth-Moon Lagrange points. On Earth, the nations formed the United Earth Sphere Alliance and this alliance has oppressed the colonies with their powerful military.

The colonies want to be free and scientists have developed a plan for revenge against the alliance with “Operation Meteor” and five teenage boys have been chosen and trained by five scientists and then sent to Earth with advanced mobile suits known as “Gundams” made from Gundanium alloy designed by each scientist.

The manga introduces us to these five teenage boys with the protagonist being Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner and Chang Wufei.

As the United Earth Sphere Alliance are aware of the attacks on Alliance soldiers, the Organization of the Zodiac (OZ) has their ace mobile suit pilot, Zechs Merquise to find the enemy.

In this latest volume 13, the G Team made a decision to not choose a side and will work together to take down both Treize and Zechs.

Meanwhile, Treize, the head of the World State, has thousands of armored Mobile Suits (Virgo II) plans for all out war and believes to end fighting is to do more fighting.

As the G Team are about to trike, they are surprised to see a whole battalion of Mobile Suits coming their way.  And to the shock of Relena, she finds out that Dorothy will be controlling the Virgo II’s and Dorothy tells Relena that if she wants to end this war, she will need to shoot her dead.

The war begins as G Team leads an assault on the White Fang but will they become successful?

Like previous volumes, there are a lot of panels of fighting and things were often so chaotic that it’s easy to get lost. Writer Sumizawa Katsuyuki has a tough task of having to write stories about five Gundam pilots (six if you include Zechs) and due to the high level of action, I’ve had to go back and re-read various chapters.

Mecha fans will no doubt love the storyline, while those wanting more story and a balance of action (ie. the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” or even the recent “Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt” may find “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers” a bit more challenging to follow as it is primarily all action-based for this volume alone.

Overall, “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers” vol. 13 is the beginning of the final war and for those who have invested their time in reading the manga from the beginning, will no doubt want to check out this latest manga volume!
