The Earth Union is locked in a massive galactic war. Ace pilot Subaru Ichinose—socially awkward and plagued by an intense, almost sexual love for food—carries the fate of humanity on his shoulders.
What happens when Subaru and his brother Isuzu must work together?
What happens when Subaru comes into contact with a white hair version of himself, Subaru-B? And what happens when both brothers come into contact with their long-lost father, Ichinose Soichiro?
All this and more in the second season titled “Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei”!
What is “Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei” about?
Back in 2015, writer Miyakawa Satoshi and illustrator Ito Kei created a manga series titled “Uchu Senkan Tiramisu” (Space Battleship Tiramisu) which was serialized in Shinchosha’s “Kurage Bunch”.
The series would eventually be adapted into an anime series in 2018 courtesy of GONZO and the anime series has now been released on Blu-ray and DVD courtesy of Funimation.
Each episode is very short (about seven minutes long).
The mecha anime series is a comedy-driven series about Ichinose Subaru, a mecha pilot for the Durandal F and is based in the Space Battleship Tiramisu.
And the setting is during a time when the Earth Union is in a galactic war.
Ichinose dislikes everyone and spends almost all his time in the fighter’s cockpit, eating his food and doing other adult-like things.
He doesn’t like to shower in the men’s room because he is subconscious of people that may make fun of him because his nipples are located in weird places.
His main friend that he talks to often is his pubic hair and a robot named PAC2-AR who pretends to be cute. And an animal named Bitsy who gets too big, so Ichinose dumps him off in space.
One day, Subaru comes in contact with the brother he thought was dead, Isuzu.
VIDEO:
“Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei” is presented in 1080p High Definition. The animation is vibrant and colorful. But as expected with many animated TV shows, there is a hint of softness. For the most part, character designs are done well and background art is also well-done. If anything, great quality from GONZO as expected!
AUDIO & SUBTITLES:
“Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei” is presented with a English Dolby True HD 5.1 and a Japanese stereo soundtrack. Dialogue and music are crystal clear for the series.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
“Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei” comes with no special features but Funimation trailers.
EXTRAS
“Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei” comes with a Blu-ray slipcover, the Blu-ray and Funimation digital code.
I wish I could describe what kind of “Space Battleship Tiramisu” is but it may be a bit difficult.
For the most part, it is perverted, farcical and crazy.
The series tends to poke fun on mecha anime series, for the fact that the main protagonist Ichinose Subaru is not the heroic type.
He is a loner, he thinks bad about people, he has no friends, he loves to eat food in his cockpit (including eating food on himself) and he takes care of himself (sexually) inside his cockpit, to the fact that his best friend is his pubic hair, which he believes is talking to him.
Each episode is about seven minutes long and just discussing a synopsis of each episode may surprise for some people.
With “Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei”, it seems the more adult-things about the series have been toned down quite a bit for season two but focuses a bit more on the story.
The series becomes more of a family affair as these latest stories focus on the Ichinose family, Subaru and his brother Isuzu and their father Soichiro.
Episodes revolve around Vulgar Hummer shooting Subaru, a new mecha – The Neo Durandel, what happens when a kid and grandma sneak into the Durandel and more!
If you enjoyed “Space Battleship Tiramisu”, “Zwei” remains consistent as season one, slightly toned down in adult humor but focusing more on the characters and storyline, but still a crazy, idiotic and fun anime series!
