      Reviewed back in 1992:

      The last episode of “Maison Ikkoku” was back in March 1998 and since the, Takashi Rumiko has returned with another popular series titled “Ranma 1/2”.

      But fans will always remember the characters of the popular romantic comedy anime series!

      So, it was a surprise to find out that a new drama CD will be released featuring the cast of “Maison Ikkoku”.

      So, we hear voice talent Shimamoto Sumi (voice of Otonashi Kyoko), Issei Futamata (voice of Godai Yusaku), Chiba Shigeru (voice of Yotsua), Mita Yuko (voice of Roppongi Akemi), Aoki Kazuyo (voice of Ichinose Hanae), Tominagai Miina (voice of Nanao Kozue) and Kyoda Hisako (voice of Godai Yukari).

      The script for the series was written by Chiba Shigeru who played the role of Yotsuya and he also was the sound director.

      The CD insert booklet features artwork but also lyrics to the songs.

      Being a big fan of the TV series, I absolutely love it! The setting is Christmas Eve and as Godai-kun and Kyoko are shopping at a department store for karaoke CD and preparing to attend a Christmas party at Chachamamaru where Akemi works.

      This is the first time anyone could hear the voice talent/characters singing the popular songs from “Maison Ikkoku”.

      So, you hear Akemi singing “Suki Sa”, Yotsuya and Godai singing “Ashita Hareruka”, Ichinose singing “Cinema” (and hearing the ladies groan), Kozue singing “Sunny Shining Morning”, grandma Godai singing “Kanashimi Yo Konnichiwa”, Godai and Kyoko singing “Fantasy” and more….also a lot of dialogue and you get the karaoke versions for six of the songs.

Picture all of them drunk and singing!  Everyone talking when other’s are singing or singing along.  It’s just so fun to hear all the characters having fun!

I recommend this drama album to diehard “Maison Ikkoku” anime fans.  If you want just music, you won’t find it here..but you will find your usual “Maison Ikkoku” craziness and fun in this CD.
