SKE48’s Suda Akari talks about her metal allergy on NTV’s “Sukkiri”

On February 19th, Suda Akari of SKE48 appeared on the NTV program “Sukkiri” and talked about dealing with metal allergies which have troubled her for years.

Suda said that she is allergic to makeup, costumes and even microphones but she still enjoys being an idol thanks to the support of others.

Suda developed a metal allergy at the age of 19, her second year as an idol. Everytime she stood on stage, her lips were swollen and peeled and wasn’t sure why it would happen, nor did she know she was allergic to metal (she tested positive for allergies to nickel, tin, cobalt and palladium).

It got worse and she started developing acne around her jaws and she was self-conscious that people may think she wasn’t taking care of herself.

But after discovering she had a metal allergy, her costumes and accessories are coated with an acrylic film to prevent her from getting an allergic reaction.

But she said that certain foods and drinks contain trace amounts of metals, so that is still a challenge.

But she appreciates each time she gets to sing on stage and is able to continue it for ten years.
