Hasbro releases popular 80s American cartoon “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero” (animated by Toei in Japan) on YouTube for free

For decades, it has been debated if whether ’80s American cartoons “G.I. Joe” and “Transformers” could be considered as anime, since they were animated in Japan.  Based on American scripts and storyboards, but animated in Japan, does that mean it’s an anime?

While the debate will continue, it is fact that both were animated in Japan (which was no surprise as many animated series were outsourced outside of the US as it was more affordable back then to do so) but “G.I. Joe” was intended for an American audience, whereas “Transformers” were available for both American and Japanese audiences.

Nevertheless..

“G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero” which was produced by Marvel Productions/Sunbow Productions and animated in Japan by Toei Animation was released by Hasbro on YouTube for free!  Check it out!
