Is kaidame (panic shopping) happening in the west (Kansai region)?

While in Tokyo, there have been signs of kaidame (panic shopping) as the infections are worsening in the region.  But what about the west?  We know Osaka has have increased numbers of infection but what about areas in Nagoya or even Gifu?.

One of our SPY! CREW members went to his local Costco in his region of western Japan to see how things are going with water and toilet paper.

As for water and toilet paper, this Costco looks like it’s in good shape.

But where the attention is clearly on Tokyo of having the most infections, Nagoya hospitals were no doubt full back in March with worries that coronavirus patients may need to go to other nearby prefectures.

While Gifu has lower numbers and the GIC has been proactive in posting English information on the number of COVID-19 cases in the region.

If anything, we don’t know if Prime Minister Abe will declare an emergency but if you are in a region with no kaidame, and you have the chance to stock up and prepare, definitely do it.
