Could the spring dramas be canceled if the government emergency declaration is extended?

With the spread of the coronavirus and Tokyo experiencing another increase (after two days of decreases), the government is considering extending the emergency declaration which was to end on May 6th.

TV stations have suspended recording of programs and prepared of an extension of two weeks.

But for dramas set for April-June 2020, most of the cast and staff were hired to participate through June.

If the declaration is extended to June, there is no choice but to cancel this season’s dramas.

The expectations were high for this season’s dramas as NTV had “Haken no Hinkaku”, Fuji TV had “SUITS”, TBS had “Hanzawa Naoki” and TV Asahi had the sequel to “BG Shinpen Keigo Hito”.

With an extension being considered, TV stations will more than likely make tough decisions.
