YOSHINOYA will continue to use plastic bags, will be free of charge starting on July 15th

As locations are now limiting people from bringing their own bags (to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus), YOSHINOYA, a popular gyudon restaurant chain, has announced they will continue to use plastic bags and will not charge for it, starting on July 15th.

The new plastic bags use 25% of biomass raw materials, making it inexpensive and easy to make it free of charge (when the government made a revision to the recycling law, restaurants and stores had to charge 1 yen or more on plastic bags, but if the bags are 25% or more of biomass materials and has a thickness of 50 micrometers or more, it can be used repeatedly, free of charge).

This decision is a result of an emphasis on hygiene and customer conveience amid increase use of take-out sales due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“Kura Sushi” and “Royal Host” also announced they will continue with plastic bags and will not charge for them.
