Robby just can’t catch a break—and with an angry debt collector hot on his heels, an escape to legendary planet Isekandar sounds like his ticket to freedom. Will stowaway Hatchi throw yet another wrench in his plans?

Back in 2019, a 12-episode mecha sci-fi anime series titled “RobiHachi” from Studio Comet was shown on AbemaTV, Tokyo MX, etc.

And now the anime series will be released in North America courtesy of Funimation.

The series revolves around Robbie Yarge, a person who has big dreams, but unfortunately each big dream cost a lot of money and each time Robbie has taken a loan, his dreams end in failure or misfortune.

And now Hachi Kita, a debt collector needs to collect from Robbie.

And now Robbie, who promises to pay up on his debt decides to chart a course towards Isekandar, a planet in which dreams come true.  And somehow, Hachi ends up joining Robbie and his robot, JPS-19 to go to Isekandar but for Hachi, this would be a new way to gain experiences.

But what happens when the two end up discovering a mecha named Hizakuriger?  Robbie has to control the upper section, while Hachi must control the bottom section.\

And now the two must visit various planets and go on adventures.

Meanwhile, another mysterious debt collector known as Mr. Yang and his workers are also after Robbie.

Have you watched an anime series that is way too silly and made you wonder, “what the heck am I watching?”.

“RobiHachi” is one of those anime series. I enjoyed it for the sake that it’s beautifully animated, it has a catch opening theme, but it also has one of the craziest storylines as both Robbie and Hachi encounter weird life forms, weird people no matter which planet they visit, on their way to Isekandar.

Watching “RobiHachi”, “Tiger & Bunny” came to mind.  As it features two men who are opposites and together and must do what they can to work as a team.  Because the anime series is 12 episodes long, most of the storyline focuses on the group visiting each planet and often getting into battles using their mecha.

Robbie is naive, a pervert and has a mindset of a man willing to take risks on what he thinks will make a lot of money, despite failing so many times and now owing a lot of debt.

Hachi, is more of the cool and collected debt collector, who has never had a true social life or had the opportunity to visit new worlds, try different food and more.  So, he’s like a child seeing something new and cool for the very first time.  So, both are naive in their own way and the true voice of reason is their rabbit robot, JPS-19.

There is no doubt that “RobiHachi” is more of a sci-fi comedy which pays homage to classic anime series and it also likes to have fun by putting their characters in unusual situations.

The anime looks absolutely vibrant in HD and I didn’t see much softness. If anything, the colors really pop on Blu-ray. As for the lossless soundtrack, the English soundtrack gets the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 boost, while the Japanese gets the usual Dolby TrueHD 2.0 soundtrack.  Both soundtracks are well-acted but I have to say that I enjoyed the English dub voice acting featuring Cris George, Stephen Fu and Anthony Bowling.

As for special features, the Blu-ray comes with the episode 10 audio commentary, promotional videos and textless opening and ending songs.

Overall, “RobiHachi” is a fun anime series, one that is not meant to be taken seriously and if anything, it’s an anime series that is easy to watch as it’s only 12-episodes long.  If you are an anime fan that needs a break from anime that is too serious and in need of crazy comedy, may want to give “RobiHach – The Complete Series” a try!
