“Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” surpasses 4 billion yen in the box office in three days

“Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” has surpassed 4 billion yen (37.9 million in USD) in the box office in three days of the film’s theatrical debut.  The overall total was 4.6 billion yen.

The figure exceeds the 3.9 billion yen which “Tenki no Ko” (Weathering with You) did in 2019 in its first three days and would go on to earn 14 billion yen.

Shinkai Makoto even was in awe:

The box office figures is quite amazing considering the movie industry around the world are having difficulty due to the novel coronavirus.  One thing that was done differently is the unprecedented number of screenings.  The film was screened at 403 theaters throughout Japan (365 theaters + 38 IMAX theaters) from early morning to late at night.

At TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku, Tokyo, the number of screenings was 42 times from early morning to late at night.

Is there is a chance that “Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen” may surpass 20 billion yen in ten days?

In terms of box office revenue in Japan of overall films released in 2020, the top three films are “Star Wars: Skywalker no Yoake”, which has the top box office record in three days at 7.27 billion earned. “Kyo Kara Ore Wa!!” at 5.33 billion yen and “Parasite: Panchika no Kazoku” earning 4.7 billion yen.
