State of Emergency expanded in Japan

Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide has expanded the State of Emergency to Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Aichi, Gifu, Tochigi and Fukuoka.  So, a total of 11 of Japan’s 47 prefectures.

The State of Emergency which includes Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures is set to expire on February 7th.

The cumulative total of coronavirus cases has now surpassed 300,000 on Wednesday, a few weeks since Japan surpassed 200,000 back on December 21st.

The COVID cases are so bad in Japan that hospitals and testing centers are overwhelmed and people who have tested positive were turned away from hospitals and isolation facilities between Jan. 3.

In addition, Prime Minister Suga will temporarily suspend arrangement allowing business travelers from 11 Asian countries and regions from entering Japan, and banning the entry of nonresident foreign travelers.
