On September 13, 2020, IZ*ONE performed their second major concert titled “IZ*ONE – ONEIRIC THEATER – ONLINE CONCERT-“.

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus worldwide, the concert had to be presented online, as a paid concert. Needless to say, the team responsible for the online concert, managed to pull off a CG and video backdrop performance that worked amazingly well!

The group performed and it was a big talk on social media, especially with the special sub-unit performances.

As for this Blu-ray release, STONE MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT and OFF THE RECORD have put together a Blu-ray package that all fans will want to own.

For one, you get over 2 hours on the concert Blu-ray, then you get almost 2 hours on the special features Blu-ray and then you also get a ten track LIVE music CD and the awesome inclusion of a good sized photobook, photocards, bookmarks and mini-poster (more like a large postcard) featuring each member and if you pre-ordered, you get two posters.

As for the concert Blu-ray, the tracks performed live are from the groups three mini-albums (“COLOR*IZ”, “HEART*IZ” and “ONEIRIC DIARY” and their full-length album “BLOOM*IZ” plus special collaboration performances featuring covers of popular songs and also games and VCR’s and more.

VIDEO:

“IZ*ONE – ONEIRIC THEATER – ONLINE CONCERT” is presented in 1080i. I was a bit surprised that it wasn’t released in 1080p but I imagine that the decision was due to all the CG featured in the film. Nevertheless, picture quality still looks very good!

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

“IZ*ONE – ONEIRIC THEATER – ONLINE CONCERT” is presented in Korean DTS-HD MA 5.1 and LPCM 2.0. The music and vocals are crystal clear on all channels. Granted, you won’t hear the screaming audience as most concert events were canceled in 2020 (and it looks like it may be the same for 2021). But the lossless audio is great!

And one thing that will make international fans happy, the entire concert and the special features include Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese subtitles.

I have to say that I have had the opportunity to own most of the IZ*ONE releases and for those who have followed the group and have seen them evolved from their “Produce48” appearances, to “La Vie en Rose” and most recently with “Panorama”, IZ*ONE has not only become one of the coolest female pop groups, they are also one of the top selling pop groups.

In fact, in 2020, BLACKPINK and IZ*ONE had amazing sales thanks to their loyal, dedicated fanbase.

I was pleasantly surprised of the time and quality spent on this concert.

The concert begins with a CG of a young child who grabs the “ONEIRIC DIARY” from the bookshelf, and as he reads the book, outside is a flying convertible which wisks the boy to IZ*LAND and he sits in the theater about to watch the group perform.

The whole entire concert looks as if the group is performing with a green screen all around them, but when you watch the special features, you learn this is not the case.

You eventually get to see the group perform songs from “ONEIRIC DIARY” and “BLOOM*IZ” with a few VCR (video-based scenes) and also fun scenes as quiz game but I know the big talk of this concert on social media after it was streamed online was the sub-unit performances which was fantastic.

The first unit featured Jang Wonyoung, Kim Chaewon and Kang Hyewon performing Orange Caramel’s “Catallena”.

The next performance featured Kim Minju, Jo Yuri, Honda Hitomi and Yabuki Nako performing Park Ji Yoon’s “Coming of Age Ceremony”.

The next performance featured an awesome duo as Kwon Eunbi and Miyawaki Sakura and several background dancers performed Red Velvet Irene and Seulgi’s “Monster”.

The next performance is Lee Chaeyeon, Choi Yena and Ahn Yujin performing to Jamie’s “Gangsta” with Lee Chaeyeon. Fantastic!

The rest of the concert features a live band. So, the group’s popular songs such as “La vie en Rose”, “Violeta” and “FIESTA” get the live band treatment along with “Up”, “Airplane”, “SPACESHIP”, “Destiny”, “Yumi wo Miteiru Aida” and “With*One”.

If I had only one small issue with the entire concert, there was no outro. It began with an intro but it just ended with “With*One” and was expecting some sort of outro conclusion.

But as for my feelings between their last Blu-ray release of “IZ*ONE 1ST CONCERT IN SEOUL – EYES ON ME”, for one, I do love the audience interaction of the first concert and because of that interaction, with the MC portion of the group talking and getting emotional, that’s what made “EYES ON ME” so memorable.

But with that being said, I felt the group and the organizers of this online concert did an amazing job considering that there is no live audience and trying to incorporate an exciting concert that WIZ*ONE will surely enjoy.

As for the second Blu-ray, this is actually pretty fun to watch because there were cameras showing the group rehearsing, including dance practice (especially for the sub-unit) and also the group practicing along with the band and so much more! I love lengthy special features and the fact that you get nearly two hours of special features on disc 2 is fantastic!

And it’s one thing to get photocards, the book mark, the mini-poster (or giant photos or postcards) and al the cool IZ*ONE merch. (Note: There is no Moing AR card for this release but you do get something special if you have the Universe app installed on your phone), but I was happy to see a third disc, which is a CD featuring the live band performances from the concert which ten songs are featured on CD.

So, you get a lot for your money with “IZ*ONE – ONEIRIC THEATER – ONLINE CONCERT”.

In some way, I do feel that IZ*ONE, hopefully can extend their contract for many more months or even up to October (when they debuted to reach three years). Because with their March 29th date of when the group are set to disband is around the corner, I just feel that with such a group with amazing success, magnificent sales and wonderful chemistry, this is rare to see and I wish they can stay together, if temporary, to pull off one more concert and possibly a true final album release.

Of course, for fans, many hope for a permanent resolution but knowing that each have their own management and Miyawaki Sakura, Yabuki Nako and Honda Hitomi have their dedicated fans awaiting for them to return back to HKT48 and AKB48 (personally, I would love to see them stay with IZ*ONE considering HKT48 and AKB48 has not been as active with only one single a year and IZ*ONE continues to be active and their fandom globally has increased exponentially as IZ*ONE members). So, hopefully we get some good news of an extension or something rather than the group ending at the end of March.

But overall, if you are an IZ*ONE fan and a loyal WIZ*ONE, “IZ*ONE – ONEIRIC THEATER – ONLINE CONCERT” is highly recommended!
