Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide announces State of Emergency

Due to the rising novel coronavirus infections in areas of Japan, Prime Minister Suga Yoshide announced a State of Emergency.

Only 15% of Japan are fully vaccinated compared to 47.4% in the US and 50% in Britain.

The State of Emergency will go into effect on Monday through August 22, the Olympics is set to start on July 23 through August 8th, so the entire Olympics will be held during the State of Emergency, while the Paralympics will begin on August 24th.

Suga said, “Taking into consideration the impact of the delta strain, and in order to prevent the resurgence of infections from spreading across the country, we need to step up virus prevention measures”.

The Olympics will feature venues without any spectators, with the exception of athletes, staff, employees, sponsors, media and others.
