The number of severely ill due to the novel coronavirus surged 4.5 times in one month in Japan , the highest number ever for six consecutive days

The number of severely ill people throughout Japan due to the novel coronavirus has reached a record high for six consecutive days.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of ill people due to the novel coronavirus nationwide as of August 17th was 1,716, which was 70 more than the previous day of 1,646 and reached a record high for six consecutive days.

In mid-July it was in the high 300’s but it increased by about 4.5 times in the past 30 days.

The surging number of severely ill people due to the novel coronavirus has not stopped in Japan, putting a burden towards hospital staff.
