The Orix Buffaloes showed why they deserved to be champions this year!

The team which have not won a championship since 1996 (when Suzuki Ichiro was a member of Orix Blue Waves and before the merger with the Kintetsu Buffaloes), took advantage of costly errors made by the Tokyo Yakult Swallows.

While the Tokyo Yakult Swallows would win games 1 and 3 (game two was a tie), the Buffaloes would win the next four games.

But with a costly error in game 5 (with Yakult Swallows ahead in the final inning, the Orix capitalized on an error to win 5-4) and wonderful pitching in game 6 (3-0) and holding off a comeback by the Swallows in game 7.

Sugimoto Yutaro won the Japan Series Most Valuable Player Award.
