Before Fujii Kaze became a popular singer, he used to sing cover songs on YouTube. But many netizens wrote Fujii for using the derogatory “N” word.

(Note: Many Japanese are not familiar with the derogatory word and so when they sing cover songs by African American music artists who say the words in their lyrics, they are not aware that if someone who is not African American saying those word is derogatory).

Fujii tweeted, “In regards to mistakes I’ve made because of my ignorance, I am deeply sorry. I never meant to offend anyone in anyway. It will never happen again. I am going to keep learning. I love you. This apology is in relation to my 2018 cover video. In the song’s lyrics there’s a word which I’m never allowed to use. I’m ashamed of myself not knowing the background of the term, and I’m terribly sorry for all the people feeling offended. There’s no excuse. and I’m deeply regret I didn’t make it clear from the first tweet. Sincere apologies for all the confusion.”

The song which Fujii covered was a mashup of three western songs by rapper Nicki Minaj and others based on the music of the japanese music unit m-flo. Fans started posted on Twitter around November 1st about the racist word used in the cover which led to Fujii issuing an apology.
