Grendizer mecha in Saudi Arabia is recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest metal sculpture

Nagai Go’s “UFO Robo Grendizer” was a mecha anime series and manga created back in 1975 and ran through 1977. A total of five manga volumes and a 74 episode anime series and two animated films were created.

And in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, a metal sculpture featuring Grendizer has now been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest metal sculpture in the world.

The structure is 33.7m (110.5 feet), which is nearly twice the height of the Gundam Unicorn sculpture (which is 19.7m) in Odaiba (Tokyo, Japan).

Prior to the release of the statue, Manga Productions entered into a strategic partnership agreement with Dynamic Kikaku Co., Ltd. (Tokyo) regarding the IP licensing of “UFO Robo Grendizer”, including the use of characters in games, amusement facilities and events in the Middle East., and as the first initiative, they co-produced the Grendizer statue with Saudi Arabia’s Sera.

Since its opening on November 21, over 300,000 tourists and media personnel from all over the world have visited Boulevard World.

The series was first shown on the Lebanese channel Tele Liban in the 1980s and later on other Arabic channels making it very popular overseas.
