We have been noticing a fashion trend that is growing rapidly and become more popular as years go by. And that is outdoor clothing becoming mainstream clothing.  At first it was more of a subset, but we started to notice events and more magazine coverage, especially word of mouth.

But we have noticed with Japan becoming more expensive, people are now wanting great deals on clothing.

Enter Workman, a Japanese chain store that have always catered to the working person, especially those working industrial settings.

Workman is based in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture and is part of the Beisia Group, and is the largest store specializing in work clothes (onsite, factory, industrial) and people have called it the “UNIQLO of Work Clothes”.

The company founded in 1982 has held on to the belief that “If we raise the prices to increase profit margins, we lose the image of low prices and high functionality”.  So, the store is known for selling clothing at very low prices in Japan and no discounts are given because they are already low priced.  And to prevent overage, they don’t go crazy in production, so they try to prevent unsold items.

And it didn’t take long for social media influences to start paying attention to the company.  Especially as of late, they have branched out in making outdoor clothing that is functional but also inexpensive.

And these clothing can be found at Workman, Workman Plus and Workman Girl stores. Imagine getting clothing instead of Y10,000, you are spending only Y2,000. Boots for under Y1000? And what many are saying, not only is it inexpensive and functional, its quite durable as well!

In fact, the popularity of Workman clothes has been so huge that Workman is unveiling their WORKAN Plus2 store on January 12th in Niigata.

WORKMAN Plus2 Niitsu store is the company’s largest 150 tsubo store, with the full lineup of WORKMAN Plus, which is centered on workers and male general customers, plus two product lines of #Workman girls and WORKMAN Shoes. The women’s section will be five times larger than WORKMAN Plus (in the case of a 100-tsubo store), and the general shoe section will be doubled.

Now of course, there will be people who will be critical and say that those who buy Workman are those who can’t afford the more expensive brands.  But personally, if you can get a lot of functional and durable clothing that look cool for much cheaper, then that’s awesome!

But let’s take a look at people raving about Workman all over social media!

Japan is known for being trendy and being expensive, but over the years, we have seen companies like UNIQLO and WORKMAN really change how people think about inexpensive clothing.  It doesn’t have to be expensive to be stylish.  And with prices on the increase in Japan, people are having to divert their hard-earned money to more inexpensive things.

Definitely keep an eye on this company!!!
