As we reported the big mecha statue in Saudi Arabia and how many in the middle east grew up watching “Grendizer”, in the Philippines, many people grew up watching “Voltes V”.
Aired in Japan back in 1977, the anime series is beloved by many Philippines (and is known for its English dub by Filipino voice actors) who saw it back in 1978. It was a series that was banned before the final five episodes were to air by then President Ferdinand Marcos because it was deemed too violent. The show would later appear on television in 1986 and has been shown in various years, including a redub in 2017.
So, many generations of Filipinos grew up watching the animated series dubbed in English or Tagalog.
GMA-7 acquired the license through Telesuccess Productions, Toei’s Philippine-based licensing company.
The series is directed by Mark Reyes and Suzette Doctolero is the writer.
The show stars Miguel Tanfelix, Matt Lozano, Raphael Landicho, Radson Flores, Ysabel Ortega, Martin del Rosario, Liezel Lopez, Epy Quizon, Carlo Gonzalez, Neil Ryan Sese, Gabby Eigenmann and many more.
In Japan, the trailer has caught a lot of attention:
One wrote, “Since the Philippine version of “Voltes V” seems to have 80 episodes, a strange voice came out early in the New Year. Isn’t it double the original (all 40 episodes)!”

Other comments by Japanese netizens:
Amazing! It’s Voltes! It’s really Voltes V! I can feel the backbone of the Filipino people when they are trying to properly talk about the revolution. Great!
Looking at this trailer makes me realize that it’s a national anime!
The visuals are amazing , and even though he doesn’t speak Japanese, you can understand what he’s saying and what’s happening
Is the drawing of the drama part not half-baked and dark!? ? I can feel the seriousness of Voltes’ popularity in the Philippines.
For whom the live-action film adaptation is aimed , I am shocked at the difference from the tendencies that tend to be seen in live-action film adaptations in Japanese films. Is too cool to cry
