Actor Kubota Masataka (34) will star in the opening performance “Stage Evangelion Beyond” (May 6-28) of the new theater “THEATER MILANO-Za”, which will open at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower in Tokyo in April.

The story is about a boy and a girl who ride on a giant humanoid artificial weapon and fight against an unknown life form, an apostle. Eva has become a big boom, spreading to various media such as movies and games.

“Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version” released in 2021 is still popular, recording the No. 1 Japanese movie with a box office revenue of 10.28 billion yen. This stage is a completely original new work composed, directed and choreographed by world-famous director Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

Kubota, who is taking on the stage for the first time in four years since “Karaban Kaze no Matasaburo” in 2019, said, “For the stage version, the story and characters have been changed to create a new scenario, destruction and rebirth. I hope that the message drawn by Eva can be delivered directly to the audience through theater in this era. I want to take it seriously and complete Beyond”.

Ishibashi Shizukawa (28), who plays the heroine of a secret agency, said, “It’s too much pressure to create a new form of the world of ‘Evangelion’. I feel that expressing it in this turbulent era has great meaning”.

Nagano performances will be held on June 3rd and 4th, and Osaka performances will also be held from June 10th to 19th.
