Kewpie Mayonnaise is popular among Japanese for dishes and at restaurants.

Kewpie has announced that it will raise the price of household mayonnaise by up to about 21% from April, as the price of eggs has skyrocketed due to the bird flu epidemic. Kewpie will raise prices for 36 items, including household mayonnaise, from shipments on April 1, raising the reference retail price by about 3% to 21%.

“Kewpie Mayonnaise 450 grams” will increase by 45 yen and will now be 520 yen (tax included). The price of mayonnaise has been raised for the fourth time since July 2018, and rose more than 140 yen from 378 yen (including tax) two years ago.

Kewpie explained that it is extremely difficult to absorb the cost increase through corporate efforts alone, as the price of eggs has skyrocketed due to the bird flu epidemic and the price of raw materials such as cooking oil has soared.
