As Japan has many people who are cosplay photographers, there is also a growing popularity of people who take pictures of trains.

Educational foundation Jikei Gakuen Tokyo Actor, Film & Broadcasting College (location: Edogawa-ku) is the first in Japan to train professional railway photographers in a “Railway photographer course [3 years]” will be held in April 2024. They will start recruiting for the 1st term.

History of the “Railway Photographer Course”

Railroad photography is so popular that a hobby called Toritetsu was born.

Although there was a desire to make railway photography a job, which I love, there was no educational institution where I could learn railway photography as a specialty.

Therefore, in order to respond to the strong demand for human resource development from industry companies, we have come to open a specialized course.

With the know-how that we have sent out many graduates as photographers to the film/video industry for many years, we will develop railway photographers who are active as professionals.

Four features of the “Railway Photographer Course”

1. Direct instruction by an active railroad photographer
Yamazaki Tomoya, representative of the “Railman Photo Office”, a group specializing in railroad photography, backs up learning. You can learn from people who are active on the front lines of the industry, so you can acquire the skills necessary for railway photography.

2. All-you-can-use the latest cameras and equipment
We have a wide variety of cameras and equipment for shooting railways, so you can practically learn the techniques of railway photography.

3. You can also learn about railway program production
You can acquire the planning and creativity necessary for railway program production, and you can work not only on filming but also on railway and travel programs.

4. Comprehensive preparation for contests
We will apply to railway photo contests held all over Japan and aim to win the highest award.
While receiving guidance on shooting methods and shooting locations from active teachers, we will try to improve shooting skills.
